Canada’s nuclear supply chain is poised for significant expansion with over CAD 1 billion (USD 700 million) in purchase orders placed this year across more than 350 Canadian companies. This robust investment highlights the strength of the domestic supply chain and its readiness to support the development of new, advanced nuclear reactor technologies.
The overwhelming majority of these investments, approximately 97%, are directed to Canadian suppliers, reinforcing the deep integration of the country’s nuclear industry within its own borders. This collaboration sets the stage for the construction of new, highly efficient nuclear reactors designed for enhanced performance, streamlined construction, and a 70-year operational lifespan.
The advanced reactors to be introduced feature a 1,000 MW output, the highest of any Canadian technology, and their design simplifies both construction and operation. As the Canadian government accelerates its efforts to meet clean energy goals, the development of these reactors plays a pivotal role in ensuring energy security through the use of domestic uranium.
The economic impact of the new reactors is projected to be substantial, with the construction phase expected to contribute over CAD 40.9 billion to Canada’s GDP and create thousands of full-time jobs. The operational phase is also forecasted to generate an additional CAD 49.5 billion, supporting long-term job creation in Canada’s energy sector.
Canada’s nuclear supply chain continues to thrive, ensuring that the country remains a leader in clean energy production while bolstering local industry, creating jobs, and supporting a sustainable energy future.
