A transformative four billion euro investment will establish a state-of-the-art lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery gigafactory in Zaragoza, Spain. This initiative is set to enhance the electric vehicle (EV) supply chain by focusing on localised production, sustainability, and cost-efficiency.
Scheduled to commence operations by the end of 2026, the facility is expected to achieve a capacity of up to 50 GWh. This development strengthens the local supply chain while reducing logistics costs, strategically situating the facility near key industrial operations and transportation networks, including the port of Barcelona and rail links to France and the rest of Europe.
The use of LFP battery chemistry highlights a focus on cost-effective and sustainable EV production. Its compatibility with lower-cost EV models ensures affordability while maintaining performance standards. The facility’s carbon-neutral design aligns with global efforts to promote environmentally friendly manufacturing practices.
By diversifying battery chemistries and building a resilient local supply chain, this project enhances market demand flexibility and reinforces Europe’s role as a leader in advanced EV solutions. It drives innovation and sustainable growth in the supply chain ecosystem, setting a benchmark for the future of EV production.
