This comprehensive approach is designed to facilitate partnerships with shipping lines, ultimately creating a seamless and efficient transshipment hub. “We are focused on creating a complete logistics supply chain,” stated an industry leader. “Providing last-mile connectivity and additional services to our customers enhances cargo retention and boosts overall efficiency. Once we establish partnerships with shipping lines, we will fully enter the transshipment business.” Recently, there was an acquisition of a majority stake in a corporation that owns container freight stations, a pan-India container train operator license, a fleet of railway rakes, and an inland container depot facility in Gujarat. This move underscores the commitment to becoming a comprehensive logistics supply chain provider.
Moreover, the organization won a bid under a strategic scheme to develop a rail terminal in Chennai, securing an anchor customer for this project. With a substantial investment plan aiming to increase cargo handling capacity to 400 million tons by 2030, the focus on inland logistics infrastructure is set to complement this growth. This will involve a mix of acquisitions, strategic partnerships, and competitive bidding. Despite a slight dip in cargo handling in Q1 of FY25 due to a planned maintenance shutdown at a key steel plant, operating margins are expected to improve in the current quarter. Looking ahead, a robust pipeline of projects, including new terminals and expanded port capacities, promises to boost cargo volumes and operational efficiency.
