In celebration of Women’s Month, a logistics company has launched a groundbreaking initiative aimed at empowering women within its delivery fleet. The program, unveiled on International Women’s Day, is designed to provide women with the tools and resources needed to kickstart their own small businesses.
Entitled “Women on Wheels (WoW)”, the initiative offers selected beneficiaries specialized training and a business capital injection of Php 100,000. The move underscores the company’s commitment to fostering gender equality and economic empowerment within its workforce.
The program will be facilitated by a partner organization specializing in entrepreneurship development, offering online training sessions, mentoring, and on-ground support. This holistic approach aims to equip women with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed as micro-entrepreneurs.
Notably, this initiative comes at a crucial time as data from the November 2023 Labor Force Survey reveals a decline in female labor force participation. By providing women with access to economic opportunities, the program aligns with national targets set by the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) to increase female labor force participation.
This initiative marks a significant milestone in the company’s broader efforts to empower its delivery partners and their families through sustainable economic opportunities. With the successful graduation of three individuals from its previous program, there’s optimism for the positive impact these empowered women will have on their communities.
As the logistics industry continues to evolve, initiatives like “Women on Wheels (WoW)” serve as a testament to the sector’s commitment to inclusive and equitable practices. Through empowerment and support, these women are poised to drive meaningful change both within the industry and beyond.
