A major industrial packaging company has launched a dedicated automotive division aimed at enhancing supply chain sustainability. This new division is set to serve original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), first and second-tier suppliers, and third-party logistics providers, focusing on optimizing supply chains and using sustainable packaging materials to reduce clients’ carbon footprints.
Leading the initiative is a team of experts in design, sales, marketing, and logistics. Their goal is to replace traditional plastics and foams with more sustainable materials, ultimately reducing end-to-end costs, increasing efficiencies, and boosting sustainability throughout the supply chain.
“Our automotive experience, expertise, and consultative approach go beyond the product to help identify and create value in supply chains,” stated the Automotive Business Manager. He emphasized the sector’s complexity and the importance of adopting a circular approach in their new offerings. By leveraging this method, several automotive customers have potentially reduced their supply chain costs by up to 25 percent.
The company offers a range of supply chain services, including next-day delivery, ‘stock and serve,’ and ‘pick and pack’ services through its logistics arm. Recent investments of over £7 million have expanded the company’s capabilities, including high-performance box manufacturing and innovation facilities. Their advanced printing technology enables the production of over 465,000 large format sustainable cases per day.
In the automotive sector, the company provides heavy-duty packaging for intricate components and ‘Easy Pick’ folding bins that require no gluing or staples. They also specialize in bespoke die cuts, offering various styles and board grades with strength and weight-saving features.
The company plays a crucial role in supporting the electrification trend and new automotive start-ups, ensuring smooth transitions into production. A notable example is their collaboration with a leading EV charge point manufacturer. They developed a new packaging solution for an intelligent charger, optimizing it for courier services and enhancing the end-user experience while reducing the number of SKUs from four to one.
