Sustainability is becoming an essential part of international trade and logistics strategy. A new environmental data initiative is offering supply chain professionals expanded access to key sustainability metrics. This development enables businesses to improve sourcing decisions, support ESG goals, and comply with growing trade and environmental regulations.
The initiative builds on earlier sustainability programs by significantly increasing the visibility of environmental impacts at the product level. With 14 environmental attributes now available, such as carbon footprint, energy efficiency, packaging, and use of recycled content, companies are better equipped to manage supply chain risks and respond to shifting trade policies.
Currently, data covers more than 110,000 product references with a goal of reaching 155,000 by the end of the year. This will boost environmental data coverage from 70 percent to 80 percent of product turnover. These insights help organizations take meaningful steps toward lowering emissions while aligning with global regulatory expectations like the draft EU Green Claims Directive.
In today’s trade landscape, transparency and accountability are no longer optional. With climate-related policies influencing tariffs and trade agreements, environmental data is becoming a competitive advantage. The initiative supports long-term resilience by promoting responsible sourcing, reducing waste, and enhancing operational efficiency.
As global supply chains face continued pressure from climate change and regulatory shifts, access to reliable environmental information is proving essential. This positive step forward reflects a broader commitment to sustainable trade and a stronger, more transparent global logistics network.
