A leading contract logistics provider has successfully implemented a large-scale robotics solution for a major global sporting goods retailer in Europe. This advanced solution aims to enhance order processing speed, adapt to seasonal demand fluctuations, and boost overall operational efficiency.
Rui Marques, managing director of the logistics provider in France, highlighted the benefits: “This tote-to-person solution, integrated with high-density storage, enables high-volume picking, storage, and operating efficiency in our warehouse. We’re always looking to leverage technologies that solve our customers’ increasingly complex global supply chain problems.”
Spanning more than 12,000 square meters, the robotics solution was installed to revolutionize the retailer’s omnichannel supply chain within the region. It includes approximately 500 autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) managing 70,000 bins on storage racks that are 5.5 meters tall. These robots, utilized for picking tasks, have significantly improved productivity, accuracy, and site safety.
The AMRs’ lightweight and mobile design allows for their reallocation within the warehouse or to other facilities, accommodating seasonal demand changes.
Adrian Stoch, chief automation officer, expressed satisfaction with the implementation: “We’re pleased to have completed the successful deployment of this first-of-its-kind automated solution in Europe. The success here reflects the power and scale of our global team, where we have leveraged expertise and resources across our network to support this first-time implementation in a new market. Our operations-first approach to solution design has been instrumental in solving our customer’s challenges and furthering their strategic objectives.”
The logistics provider’s ongoing investment in automation and technology continues to enhance safety and productivity for its customers worldwide. In 2023, the company significantly expanded its tech and automated systems by approximately 50% year over year, while accelerating the integration of machine learning and artificial intelligence to further enhance productivity gains from automation.
