A newly launched regional distribution hub in North West England is poised to revolutionize healthcare logistics in the area, enhancing the efficiency and reliability of medical supply chains. The state-of-the-art facility, covering 400,000 square feet, has officially begun operations, offering a significant boost to the region’s healthcare logistics network.
This cutting-edge hub, situated in Widnes, triples the capacity of the previous facility, providing 60,000 pallet spaces. This substantial increase allows for a more comprehensive range of medical products and equipment to be stored and managed, addressing the growing needs of healthcare providers across the region.
The new distribution centre will support 115 healthcare trusts and manage deliveries to over 3,500 locations, serving 18,400 individual requisition points. With the creation of 360 new jobs, many of which are relocating from the former site in Runcorn, the facility is expected to contribute positively to the local economy. The hub’s strategic location near major motorways and transport links, including the Mersey Gateway Bridge and Liverpool John Lennon Airport, ensures optimal connectivity for efficient supply chain operations.
This investment represents a major leap forward in healthcare logistics, providing a more resilient and effective supply chain for the healthcare sector. By significantly increasing storage capacity and enhancing logistical capabilities, the hub is set to improve the timeliness and reliability of deliveries, ensuring that healthcare providers have timely access to the products and equipment needed for patient care.
