Saudi Arabia and Romania have recently signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at bolstering logistics services between the two countries. The agreement, sealed by Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Transport and Logistics Services, Saleh Al-Jasser, and Romania’s Minister of Transport, Infrastructure, and Communications, Sorin Grindeanu, signifies a mutual commitment to advancing operational standards in the sector, according to an official statement. This initiative is aligned with Saudi Arabia’s comprehensive logistics development strategies, including Vision 2030 and the National Industrial Strategy, aimed at elevating the Kingdom’s standing among the top global leaders in logistics services.
In 2022, Saudi Arabia’s exports to Romania amounted to $15.1 million, while Romania’s exports to Saudi Arabia totaled $410 million, as reported by the Observatory of Economic Complexity. The newly signed MoU focuses on exchanging and supporting experiences and the latest developments in the logistics sector, as well as harmonizing policies and regulations. Additionally, it emphasizes collaboration in logistics governance, licensing of services, and operational activities. During his visit to Romania, Minister Al-Jasser visited Bucharest International Airport, accompanied by Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to Romania, Mohammed Abdul Ghani Khayat. The minister received a briefing on the airport’s comprehensive services, including passenger handling, cargo operations, and airline services.
Discussions also took place with officials from Romanian Air Transport (TAROM) regarding the operational capabilities and fleet size of the national carrier. This recent collaboration follows previous joint efforts between Saudi Arabia and Romania, including a cooperation agreement in the defense sector signed in June 2022. The agreement encompassed various fields of defense cooperation, including training, expertise exchange, technology development, and medical services.
