Vietnam’s agricultural export sector continues to thrive, marking a significant milestone in September 2025 as fruit and vegetable exports reached a record US$1.4 billion, driven primarily by strong durian demand. This growth underscores the country’s expanding role in the global agri-supply chain and its capacity to meet rising international market standards.
According to the Vietnam Customs Department, the country’s fruit and vegetable exports surged 52.7% year-on-year and 47.2% month-on-month, while total exports from January to September 2025 amounted to US$6.2 billion, up 10.3% from the same period last year. The Vietnam Ministry of Industry and Trade attributed this performance to improved production efficiency, logistics coordination, and market diversification—factors that continue to strengthen the nation’s agricultural value chain.
Durian remained the leading export product, contributing nearly US$900 million in September alone. China accounted for around 60% of total fruit and vegetable export revenues, reflecting the importance of cross-border trade logistics and supply chain integration between the two countries. As other durian-producing nations conclude their harvests, Vietnam is expected to maintain a steady supply to meet high regional demand.
Beyond durian, Vietnam’s export portfolio has diversified, with notable growth in lychee, strawberry, avocado, pineapple, and processed fruit products. The surge in processed goods—growing two- to threefold—highlights the sector’s investment in value-added production, cold-chain logistics, and advanced packaging systems that ensure product quality across long-distance shipments.
Looking ahead, the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association projects rapid expansion in processed exports over the next five years, supported by modernized supply chain infrastructure and deeper integration into global markets. With sustained investments in processing facilities, certified cultivation areas, and digital traceability systems, Vietnam’s agricultural supply chain is on track for double-digit annual growth.
Industry analysts note that Vietnam’s progress offers valuable insights for neighboring economies such as Thailand, which can explore strategic collaborations in logistics, packaging innovation, and sustainable sourcing. Strengthening regional supply chain partnerships could enhance market access, reduce transportation costs, and support both countries’ positions as key players in Asia’s fresh produce trade.
