The upcoming supply chain expo in Beijing this November is generating significant interest among UK businesses, despite ongoing disruptions in global supply chains due to regional conflicts and geopolitical tensions.
At a promotional roadshow in London on Friday, business leaders from various sectors expressed their enthusiasm for participating in the second edition of the China International Supply Chain Expo. The event saw attendance from over 150 representatives from British and Chinese business associations, enterprises, and media organizations.
The chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), who led a delegation of Chinese enterprises to the UK, emphasized the critical role of a seamless supply chain. “Industrial and supply chains in the economy are like the circulatory system of the human body. Any obstacles or disruptions can slow down or block the flow of lifeblood of the world economy,” he stated.
Last year’s inaugural expo, the world’s first national-level exhibition focused on supply chain partnerships and innovations, featured 515 enterprises and organizations from 55 countries and regions, resulting in over 200 cooperation deals worth more than $20 billion.
Approximately 400 companies, including major firms from the UK, have confirmed their participation in this year’s expo, which will feature sections on advanced manufacturing, smart vehicles, green agriculture, clean energy, digital technology, and healthy living.
The expo aims to foster cooperation between global enterprises and support the development of partnerships along the supply chain. Highlighting the advantages of cooperation, the chairman remarked, “China and the UK both have comparative advantages in finance, digital technology, artificial intelligence, and other fields. Cooperation between enterprises from both countries is conducive to maintaining the resilience and stability of their supply chains.”
The chair of the China-Britain Business Council supported these remarks, noting the rapid progress of Chinese companies in new markets and the efficiency of global distribution facilitated by supply chain cooperation. Similarly, the chairman of the 48 Group Club emphasized that the UK-China partnership has enabled both nations to leverage their respective strengths to drive global progress and prosperity.
The biopharmaceutical sector has seen significant investment in China, with companies building factories and strategic centers, highlighting the importance of the China-UK relationship in ensuring the integrity and efficiency of global supply chains.
China’s ambassador to the UK noted the government’s commitment to further opening its doors to international investors and businesses by reducing market access restrictions in various sectors.
