A major logistics hub in Saudi Arabia has taken a significant step towards sustainability by acquiring 80 electric prime movers (e-PMs) for use at King Abdulaziz Port Dammam (KAPD). The procurement includes charging stations and training for operational staff to maintain these eco-friendly vehicles.
This initiative underscores the logistics sector’s commitment to reducing carbon footprints and enhancing operational efficiency. Expected to be fully operational by late October 2024, the e-PMs will bolster the port’s capacity, aligning with plans to invest SAR 7 billion (USD 2.5 billion) over three decades to transform KAPD into a leading global container hub.
Edward Tah, CEO of the logistics hub, expressed enthusiasm, stating, “We are proud to lead this sustainable initiative, showcasing our dedication to environmental stewardship and embracing cutting-edge solutions. We extend our gratitude to Mawani (Saudi Ports Authority) for their support in aligning with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 and Green Saudi goals, and to our technical partner for their expertise in implementing e-PMs and sustainable logistics practices.”
The agreement for the e-PMs was finalized during transport logistic China 2024, underscoring the hub’s commitment alongside other industry leaders in advancing sustainable logistics practices.
