At the International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations (FIATA) RAME field meeting and conference, discussions centered on strategies for enhancing the resilience of supply chain ecosystems amidst geopolitical disruptions. Under the theme ‘Connectivity, Resilience, and Sustainability in Global Supply Chains and Trade’, the two-day event addressed trade disruptions due to geopolitical issues and explored strategies for the burgeoning Middle East and Africa (MEA) logistics market, currently valued at $163.57 billion and projected to reach $222.63 billion by 2029.
The conference, held under the patronage of Sheikh Ahmed Saeed Al Maktoum, Honorary patron of NAFL, convened industry experts and stakeholders to delve into key challenges and opportunities in the logistics sector. Highlighting the significance of the UAE’s role in facilitating global trade, Humaid Bin Salem, Chairman of the UAE International Chamber of Commerce, underscored the importance of seamless multimodal connectivity in the face of supply chain disruptions.
The event featured discussions on the strategic positioning of the RAME region as a hub connecting continents. FIATA-RAME Chair Dr Juanita Maree, FIATA Director General Dr Stéphane Graber, and FIATA global President Turgut Erkeskin emphasized the need for agility, creativity, and strategic planning to navigate global trade challenges. They highlighted the region’s potential, including its sophisticated ports, airports, and a dynamic young workforce.
The meeting attracted over 600 delegates, including representatives from 16 FIATA member associations and 11 from the Arica & Middle East region from over 29 countries. Nadia Abdul Aziz emphasized the UAE’s role as a global logistics and trade hub, citing investor-friendly policies and sustainability initiatives.
Panel discussions focused on the evolving logistics sector in the GCC market, with insights provided by industry experts and government representatives. Topics included opportunities for economic growth, advancements in digitalization, and initiatives such as the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) program and the National Industrial Development & Logistics Programme (NIDLP) in Saudi Arabia.
The event showcased initiatives aimed at fostering business research, sustainability efforts, and logistics growth, highlighting the region’s commitment to excellence and innovation in the supply chain industry.
