A leading energy solutions provider recently announced a strengthened partnership with Wesfarmers Chemicals, Energy and Fertilisers (WesCEF), aiming to secure a stable lithium supply chain for the North American market’s demand for efficient and sustainable power solutions.
The agreement between the two entities entails WesCEF supplying lithium concentrate to the energy solutions provider, supporting the production of lithium hydroxide, a crucial component for cathodes.
This agreement solidifies the collaboration between the energy solutions provider and WesCEF, rooted in their shared commitment to providing top-quality, IRA-compliant batteries to customers swiftly and at scale. Their partnership began in 2022 with a significant deal for battery-grade lithium hydroxide from WesCEF’s Mt. Holland lithium project in Western Australia, expected to commence production in the first half of 2025.
Expanding beyond the lithium hydroxide deal, the entities are exploring opportunities for cooperation in upstream minerals and chemical processing. By bolstering ties with WesCEF and other suppliers, the energy solutions provider aims to establish a robust and sustainable supply chain for IRA-compliant critical minerals, ensuring long-term cost competitiveness.
In addition to the partnership with WesCEF, the energy solutions provider has secured a new long-term supply agreement with another major supplier for lithium carbonate and lithium hydroxide, significantly enhancing its supply chain strategy and supporting its business expansion in North America.
The critical minerals sourced through this supply chain will be utilized in the energy solutions provider’s innovative lithium-ion batteries at manufacturing facilities across North America. With a strong operational footprint, the energy solutions provider is well-positioned to deliver sustainable power solutions, driving clean energy adoption in the region.
