E-commerce has become a vital component of the Philippine economy, and a new roadmap is set to further boost its growth by focusing on key industries such as tourism, food, logistics, and more.
Led by Trade Secretary Fred Pascual, the E-Commerce Promotion Council recently convened to discuss the E-Commerce Philippines 2024-2028 Roadmap. This roadmap aims to prioritize the expansion of various sectors while also enhancing the international presence of Philippine products and services.
With a vision for the future, the roadmap outlines 13 strategies and 28 deliverables designed to build trust between online customers and sellers. It seeks to promote inclusivity in e-commerce by implementing programs tailored for youth, women, persons with disabilities, and senior citizens.
Pascual emphasized that the focus is shifting from merely facilitating transactions to creating an engaging and trustworthy e-commerce environment. By strengthening the bond between buyers and sellers, the roadmap aims to enrich the economic landscape and foster stronger relationships within the industry.
The 2024-2028 roadmap builds upon the successes of its predecessor while introducing inclusivity and innovation as its core elements. The recent enactment of Republic Act No. 11967, also known as the Internet Transactions Act of 2023, is expected to further support the goal of enhancing trust in e-commerce.
As the technical working group finalizes the draft implementing rules and regulations of the ITA, progress is well underway. The completion of these regulations will provide a solid framework to support the vision outlined in the E-Commerce Philippines 2024-2028 Roadmap.
Overall, this roadmap signals a commitment to driving the growth of e-commerce in the Philippines while ensuring inclusivity and innovation remain at the forefront of industry development.
