A state-of-the-art, fully automated frozen warehouse has opened in Detroj, Gujarat, marking a major step forward for India’s cold chain logistics. Spanning 90,000 square feet with a 10,000-pallet capacity, the new facility features an advanced ASRS (Automated Storage and Retrieval System) designed for precision temperature control at -20°C. It incorporates an integrated Warehouse Management System (WMS) for real-time traceability and utilizes an energy-efficient design to minimize temperature loss, supporting sustainability goals across the supply chain.
Serving key industries such as agriculture, quick service restaurants, fast-moving consumer goods, and exports, the facility aims to streamline temperature-sensitive logistics operations and ensure product integrity throughout transit and storage. This is the second automated frozen facility by the same logistics provider in Gujarat, following their initial high-bay ASRS warehouse launched in 2024.
The facility also introduces India’s first Four-Way Shuttle ASRS system in the frozen segment—technology that can be seamlessly retrofitted into existing warehouses. This not only increases operational efficiency but also helps companies avoid high infrastructure costs while upgrading their systems.
India’s cold chain and warehousing sector—estimated at over $240 billion in 2024—is expected to grow to $600 billion by 2030, driven by rising demands in food processing, pharmaceuticals, e-commerce, and export industries. With 3PLs and manufacturers increasingly adopting modern cold storage models, the new facility is setting a benchmark for smart, sustainable supply chain transformation.
Industry leaders from procurement and logistics gathered at a recent conference to celebrate this advancement, highlighting how innovation and purposeful design are reshaping the future of cold storage in India.
