Morocco is set to bolster its economic growth through a comprehensive and innovative approach to its transport and logistics sectors. The Ministry of Transport and Logistics has emphasized the critical role that infrastructure investment will play in driving the country’s development. These initiatives are closely aligned with Morocco’s broader strategic vision to enhance its competitiveness on the global stage and prepare for major upcoming events like the 2030 World Cup.
In a recent address to the House of Representatives, the Minister of Transport and Logistics underscored the government’s commitment to accelerating the development of transport infrastructure and logistics. This commitment is part of a larger public investment strategy aimed at creating a modern, integrated, and sustainable public transport system. This system will cater to both national and international travel needs, prioritizing safety and quality.
The ongoing efforts are set within the framework of Morocco’s new development model, which outlines a strategic direction for the country’s growth. By focusing on infrastructure, Morocco aims to improve connectivity and support economic activities across various sectors, particularly in tourism. The minister highlighted that the development plans are not just about urban areas but also focus on enhancing accessibility to less-visited regions, promoting balanced regional development.
A significant part of this strategy includes the recently signed framework cooperation agreement, which earmarks 6.1 billion dirhams for a strategic action plan in the tourism sector for the period from 2023 to 2026. This plan is designed to attract approximately 17.5 million tourists by 2026, contributing significantly to the national economy and supporting local communities.
In addition to the physical infrastructure, the plan envisions the establishment of key logistics hubs and free zones that offer tax and customs advantages, further enhancing Morocco’s appeal as a regional and global trade hub. Initiatives such as the “Yi-Xin-Europe” cargo train, which facilitates trade between China and Spain, exemplify the kind of projects that are set to boost Morocco’s strategic positioning in global logistics.
These forward-thinking policies and investments are poised to make Casablanca one of the Mediterranean region’s most important logistics hubs, supporting the country’s vision of becoming a leading player in global trade and logistics by 2030.
