The Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry, Liew Chin Tong, has expressed Malaysia’s ambition to assume a more significant role in the global aviation supply chain. Highlighting Malaysia’s reputable presence in aviation material manufacturing and aircraft parts production, Liew emphasized the sector’s pivotal contribution to advancing the objectives outlined in the New Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP 2030).
Liew underscored NIMP 2030’s transformative potential, positioning Malaysia as a prominent hub for aerospace manufacturing and services. According to the Malaysian Aerospace Industry Blueprint 2030, Malaysia targets becoming Southeast Asia’s primary aerospace nation and an integral player in the global market by 2030. The blueprint forecasts an annual revenue of RM55.2 billion and the creation of over 32,000 high-income jobs.
The blueprint delineates five key subsectors within the aerospace industry, including maintenance, repair, and operations (MRO), aero manufacturing, system integration, engineering and design services, and education and training.
Speaking at the Malaysia-China Aviation Forum 2024, Liew emphasized the collaborative endeavor between Malaysia and China to strengthen Malaysia’s position in the global aerospace supply chain. This collaboration, he noted, aligns with the celebration of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between both nations.
Liew expressed optimism that the forum would evolve into a robust platform, fostering commercial opportunities, cultivating new partnerships, and exploring innovative horizons, particularly in green aviation.
As Malaysia endeavors to enhance its footprint in the aviation supply chain, collaborative initiatives and strategic partnerships are poised to drive growth and innovation in the aerospace industry.
