A significant investment exceeding 200 million euros is slated for the construction of a state-of-the-art logistics center in Leipzig, announced during a groundbreaking ceremony by a leading consumer goods manufacturer based in Hamburg. The facility, expected to be operational by 2027, aims to create approximately 450 new jobs, marking a substantial commitment to bolstering regional economic growth and efficiency in supply chain operations.
This latest endeavor follows closely on the heels of a similar major investment last September, where the company inaugurated a cutting-edge production center in northern Leipzig, totaling 300 million euros. Together, these projects represent the largest-ever investments made by the company at a single location and underscore its strong commitment to Germany as a pivotal hub for business operations.
The new logistics hub, to be situated across a 12.5-hectare site, will serve as a critical node in the company’s European distribution network. It is strategically positioned to optimize supply chain management and enhance connectivity with customers throughout Central Europe, according to Christian Haensch, Head of Germany.
Leipzig’s Lord Mayor, Burkhard Jung (SPD), welcomed the company’s investment as a significant milestone for the city’s economic development, predicting that the modern, environmentally sustainable logistics center will spur job creation and economic prosperity in the region.
The company has also set ambitious environmental targets, aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30% by 2025 and 50% by 2032, compared to 2018 levels. The logistics center will integrate advanced green technologies such as photovoltaic modules, green roofs, and façades, aligning with broader efforts to achieve net-zero emissions by 2045.
