A leading company in the cement industry is making remarkable strides in enhancing the sustainability of its supply chain by scaling up its use of electric vehicles (EVs). Following a successful pilot program, the company has announced plans to deploy 100 additional electric trucks, significantly boosting its efforts to reduce emissions and improve logistics efficiency.
The newly deployed electric truck fleet will transport 75,000 metric tons of clinker each month between two major production facilities, covering a 400-kilometer round-trip route. By replacing conventional diesel trucks, this transition to electric vehicles is projected to reduce transportation-related carbon emissions by 17,000 metric tons of CO2 annually.
The move builds on the success of a pilot program that began in early 2024, which featured five electric trucks and included the establishment of essential charging infrastructure and comprehensive driver training. The company is also exploring the possibility of expanding EV deployments across additional routes and evaluating similar initiatives for other parts of its logistics operations.
This expansion aligns with the company’s commitment to sustainability and its goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. As part of its strategy, the company aims to have 500 electric trucks in operation by June 2025, contributing significantly to the reduction of emissions in the logistics sector and supporting India’s electric vehicle initiative.
