Kansas is making a significant stride in enhancing its food supply chain with a $5.6 million investment aimed at boosting infrastructure and operational efficiency. Announced on August 28, 2024, this funding will support nearly 50 projects across the state, demonstrating Kansas’ commitment to improving its agricultural sector and food distribution networks within the United States.
Governor Laura Kelly highlighted the strategic importance of Kansas’ location and agricultural production in supporting national food security. “This investment in our food and farm businesses will drive economic growth throughout Kansas and reinforce our vital role in the nation’s food supply,” said Kelly.
The funding will be allocated to eight projects focused on enhancing infrastructure for producers and 41 projects designed to strengthen various stages of the food supply chain. Managed by the state’s Department of Agriculture, these grants aim to boost food processing capabilities, improve producer aggregation points, and expand product storage facilities.
Agriculture Secretary Mike Beam emphasized the positive impact of this initiative, stating, “These grants will create diverse market opportunities and support local and regional food systems, benefiting communities across Kansas.”
