At a major event for the apple processing industry, advanced technology solutions were presented to enhance the efficiency of the apple supply chain. From November 21-23, industry leaders showcased a variety of innovative machinery designed to optimize every phase of apple processing, from harvesting to packaging.
The showcased solutions focus on automation to improve both speed and precision. These include submergers, brushing machines, packaging tables, weighing systems, palletizers, and strapping machines. These technologies are designed to accommodate various package types and sizes, ensuring gentle handling of apples while boosting operational efficiency.
One highlight is the bin submerger, which quickly rotates and empties bins into water channels, significantly reducing processing times. For a fully automated apple processing line, a self-learning electronic weigher adapts to the product being processed, optimizing productivity and precision. The system is paired with a delicate bagging machine capable of processing two types of thermo-sealed bags with either handles or twisted closures.
Additional innovations include a versatile filling and closing line for cardboard punnets, which can easily switch between punnett sizes due to software that stores different settings. A robotic pick-and-place arm capable of processing up to 300 apples per minute further reduces labor costs while ensuring apples are neatly positioned with their stalks facing in the same direction.
The range of automated palletizers and strapping machines presented can handle various box sizes and layouts, with some featuring automatic corner piece fitting systems to streamline the strapping process. These machines can be used both in-line with palletizers and in shuttle systems, providing flexibility in production environments.
Sustainability is also a focus, with solutions such as plastic-free, recyclable cardboard punnets and compostable packaging options that meet growing consumer demand for environmentally friendly products. These innovations support the shift toward sustainability in the apple industry, aligning with broader trends in waste reduction and eco-conscious packaging.
These solutions aim to reduce processing times, enhance product quality, and improve competitiveness in the global apple supply chain. With a combination of flexible technology and expert support, businesses can adapt quickly to market demands and drive growth within the industry.
