Hong Kong’s Transport and Logistics Bureau has introduced an extensive Modern Logistics Development Action Plan, aiming to solidify its position as a global shipping powerhouse.
Secretary for Transport and Logistics, Lam Sai Hung, emphasized the initiative’s focus on creating an environmentally friendly port, improving high-value maritime services, and attracting top talent to elevate the city’s global standing.
A pivotal aspect of the plan is the establishment of a sustainable and technologically advanced port. The government plans to explore options for providing eco-friendly fueling facilities, such as green methanol, for both local and international vessels.
Additionally, the strategy highlights the importance of strengthening partnerships, particularly with Singapore, recognized as a key ally in Hong Kong’s expansion efforts. Lam underscored the synergies between the two logistic hubs, emphasizing collaboration opportunities to enhance logistics and trade operations.
Inspired by Singapore’s successful models, Hong Kong aims to adopt innovative practices, including the development of wind and smart ports. Efforts are underway to digitize port community systems, ensuring seamless information flow and enhancing overall efficiency and competitiveness.
While formal mechanisms for knowledge exchange are still evolving, Lam sees significant potential for mutual learning and growth between Hong Kong and Singapore. The presence of Hong Kong professionals in Singapore’s logistics sector reflects the strong bonds and collaborative spirit between the two regions.
