A German automotive logistics firm has been acquired by a European logistics entity, signaling ambitions for growth within the sector.
The subsidiary, which operates under a larger logistics group based in Market Drayton, has completed the acquisition of Suloja Autotransporte, a mid-size player in the automotive logistics arena that boasted a turnover of €6.8m (£5.8m) in 2023.
This strategic move aims to bolster the European footprint of the acquiring company, leveraging the expertise and resources of the larger logistics group to enhance operations. The acquisition is expected to provide investment opportunities, safeguard existing jobs, and infuse an entrepreneurial spirit into the acquired firm.
With main depots across Belgium, The Netherlands, Czech Republic, Germany, and Bulgaria, the acquiring entity, bolstered by the acquisition, now boasts a workforce of over 600 employees.
The parent logistics group, comprising over 22,000 employees and generating a turnover of £2.2bn, operates extensive warehousing facilities spanning 20 million square feet and maintains a fleet of 5,000 vehicles. Its diverse portfolio of brands includes well-established names such as Stobart, Fowler Welch, and The Pallet Network.
According to Raf Hustinx, Chief Executive of the European subsidiary, the acquisition aligns with the strategic objectives of both entities. He emphasizes the complementary nature of the businesses, highlighting their strong reputation and track record in the automotive logistics sector. The acquisition is anticipated to bring benefits to all stakeholders involved, strengthening the position of the European logistics entity as a key player in the automotive logistics landscape.
Based in Monchengladbach, Suloja Autotransporte specializes in a range of automotive logistics solutions, boasting over twenty-five years of industry experience. With a workforce of around thirty staff and a fleet of twenty vehicles, the firm transported over 35,000 vehicles across Germany in 2023.
