A logistics firm originating from Thailand is gearing up to expand its operations in the Philippines, tapping into the burgeoning demand for courier services in the country’s thriving e-commerce landscape.
The local unit of the Thailand-based e-commerce logistics firm is set to bolster its presence in the Philippines, with plans to establish additional facilities and ramp up its workforce this year.
Alvin Chew, Flash Express County People Head, revealed on Thursday that the company anticipates a 50 percent increase in its workforce in the Philippines, with a focus on hiring more riders and warehouse personnel in 2024.
“At present, we have approximately 22,000 full-time employees, of which 18,000 are operations staff,” Chew shared during a press conference in Taguig City.
Regarding facilities, Chew mentioned, “Site-wise, we are looking to grow it by 30 percent,” underscoring the company’s expansion strategy.
As of January, the firm boasted 28 sorting hubs, 736 distribution centers, and 27 pick-up distribution centers across the Philippines.
Expanding its clientele, Flash Express serves 4,819 key accounts in the country, including prominent e-commerce platforms such as Lazada, Shopee, Tiktok Shop, and Shein.
The company currently handles a daily parcel volume of 1 million, with a year-end target set at 300 million parcels.
With the e-commerce industry in the Philippines projected to witness a significant surge, the demand for efficient logistics services is expected to soar. Data from social media management platform Hootsuite and creative agency We Are Social indicate a substantial increase in online purchases by Filipinos, with 38.88 million individuals making online transactions in 2021, amounting to $3.55 billion in goods in 2020.
Van Thadeus Curz, the area manager of Flash Express’ business partnership unit, emphasized the symbiotic relationship between e-commerce growth and logistics, stating, “Hand in hand, if the e-commerce industry would grow, the logistics business would also grow and prosper.”
The logistics sector’s expansion aligns with the evolving demands of the e-commerce landscape, highlighting the crucial role of efficient supply chain management in supporting digital commerce growth.
