The Canadian government is making a significant investment of 13.78 billion Canadian dollars ($10 billion) to enhance the capabilities of its armed forces with new aircraft and military trucks.
This major procurement supports the Royal Canadian Air Force’s Future Aircrew Training (FAcT) program, which aims to modernize tactical training for airborne troops, as well as the army’s Logistics Vehicle Modernization (LVM) Project, designed to upgrade ground-based assets for warfighter and equipment transport.
As part of the aircraft project, the government has allocated 11.2 billion Canadian dollars ($8.16 billion) for the supply of 70 military training aircraft under the FAcT initiative. The deliverables will include a variety of aircraft equipped with cabin-installed mission training systems, contributing to enhanced training operations across several bases.
The project will span 25 years and is expected to support approximately 3,400 jobs, leveraging existing training services and operations in Saskatchewan, Winnipeg, and Manitoba.
On the logistics front, the 2.58-billion Canadian dollar ($1.88 billion) LVM contract involves the provision and maintenance of 1,000 light trucks and about 500 heavy trucks. These vehicles will be outfitted with trailers, armored protection kits, and modular containers, offering configurations for command posts, firefighting, ambulance, and workshop purposes.
Once operational, the LVM fleet will play a critical role in combat support, disaster relief, and peacekeeping missions both domestically and internationally. These new vehicles will replace older models commissioned in the late 1980s, with deliveries starting by 2027. The project is set to extend up to 25 years, creating or maintaining up to 1,550 jobs.
This investment underscores Canada’s commitment to its “Our North, Strong and Free” vision, addressing national defense needs in increasingly complex operational environments. The government highlighted the collaboration with Canadian industry partners, emphasizing the benefits of strengthening defense capabilities while fostering job creation and economic prosperity through the Industrial and Technological Benefits Policy.
