The Department of Agriculture’s Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) has initiated a project aimed at strengthening the poultry farming sector in the Philippines.
Allocated ₱2.6 million, the project targets to enhance local egg production by supporting three key associations: the Rizal Rural Improvement Club (RRIC) and Rizal-Lucban Farmers Livelihood Association (RLFLA) in Magsaysay, along with the AbBaCa Farmers Association in Agutaya.
Central to the project’s strategy is the deployment of 290 ready-to-lay chickens, accompanied by the provision of 10 chicken cages, 150 bags of feed, and 24 bottles of veterinary medicines and vitamins. These efforts are geared towards maximizing egg production efficiency and fostering sustainable growth in the poultry industry.
The project’s impact has already been felt within the community, with participating associations reporting a commendable net income of ₱132,110 between November 22, 2023, and January 26, 2024. This success underscores the positive outcomes resulting from the project’s implementation, highlighting its potential to bolster small-scale poultry ventures in the Philippines.
Moreover, the project is poised to address the region’s reliance on egg imports from Iloilo and Manila, making locally-produced eggs more accessible and affordable for consumers. By strengthening the local egg supply chain, the initiative not only aims to lower prices but also seeks to uplift the economic status of farmers and their communities.
The warm reception from the local community reflects the significant strides made towards achieving self-sufficiency and sustainability in the Philippines’ egg production sector. Through strategic interventions and collaborative efforts, the project is paving the way for a more resilient and prosperous poultry industry in the country.
