Manohar International Airport in north Goa has achieved a major milestone in logistics by successfully handling its first freighter aircraft, which transported 22 tons of goods. This accomplishment underscores the airport’s growing capacity to manage large-scale freight operations effectively. The A321 freighter aircraft, operated by an international air charter service and a Turkish airline, arrived early Wednesday morning. This operation marks a pivotal moment for the airport, showcasing its ability to manage substantial cargo using advanced offloading equipment.
This successful freighter operation sets a new standard for handling heavy and unusually shaped shipments, enhancing the airport’s role as a key logistics hub in western India. Since beginning its air cargo services on September 8, the airport has processed approximately 5,000 metric tons of both domestic and international cargo. The facility’s cargo terminal, initially designed to handle 25,000 metric tons annually, is equipped to scale up to manage up to 200,000 metric tons per year.
With its robust infrastructure and skilled workforce, the airport is well-positioned to offer rapid turnaround times for freighters, further establishing itself as a crucial node in the logistics and supply chain network.
