A group of Dutch experts is eyeing the transformation of India’s fresh produce supply chains, aiming to assist retailers in tapping into the burgeoning consumer demand both domestically and internationally. This initiative comes from the public-private collaboration known as HortiRoad2India.
As the fruit and vegetable industry leaders convene in Mumbai for the annual networking event, Fresh Produce India, Dutch companies are exploring opportunities to introduce their advanced greenhouse technology and distribution solutions. These solutions promise enhanced efficiency, profitability, and sustainability for Indian growers and retailers.
According to Desh Ramnath, the India director at Dutch Greenhouse Delta and coordinator of HortiRoad2India, their approach, termed Fork2Farm, involves assessing market demand and crafting business models tailored to meet consumer preferences. Through the implementation of high-tech greenhouses, innovative technology, and optimized distribution channels, Indian growers can deliver fresh, high-quality products punctually, meeting the requirements of retailers and the growing middle class. Additionally, there are prospects for exporting these products abroad, particularly to regions like the Gulf.
The trade mission organized by HortiRoad2India will traverse through Mumbai, Kochi, and Bengaluru from March 20 to March 29. During this period, feasibility studies and business plans will be proposed to develop comprehensive supply chain solutions.
HortiRoad2India will have a notable presence at Fresh Produce India’s expo on March 21-22, offering free knowledge sessions to attendees. Subsequently, the mission will engage with retailers, hospitality stakeholders, traders, and government representatives in Kochi, Kerala. The journey concludes in Bengaluru, where the group will reconnect with contacts from previous trade missions to India.
The endeavor underscores a concerted effort to revolutionize India’s fresh produce supply chains, aligning with the growing demand and market dynamics. Through innovation and collaboration, stakeholders aim to bolster the efficiency and sustainability of the supply chain, catering to evolving consumer preferences and market demands.
