A major U.S. port has secured a $3 million investment to significantly boost its data collection and distribution capabilities, marking a positive step forward in streamlining supply chain operations. This funding, provided by the California Containerized Ports Interoperability Grant Program, will support two innovative projects designed to enhance the port’s Freight Intelligent Transportation System (FITS).
The first project aims to upgrade FITS with advanced data sets and processes, empowering the port to deliver critical information more efficiently to carriers, shippers, and trucking companies. These improvements are expected to expand data accessibility, reduce truck turnaround times, and increase intermodal efficiency, all while contributing to a more sustainable and eco-friendly operation.
The second initiative focuses on developing a unified marine terminal appointment system that works seamlessly with FITS. By providing real-time data exchange and improving appointment coordination, this system will create a smoother and more consistent experience for truck dispatchers, drivers, and cargo owners.
These enhancements are set to accelerate the flow of goods, reduce missed appointments, and optimize the port’s overall efficiency, reinforcing its role as a vital hub in the global supply chain.
